Q: What is the difference between the Asheville Humane Society and Buncombe County Animal Shelter?
A: In September 2010, Asheville Humane Society, in partnership with Buncombe County, opened the Animal Care Campus. The campus comprises two facilities: Asheville Humane Society Adoption and Education Center (red building) and the Buncombe County Animal Shelter (gray building). Asheville Humane Society is a nonprofit that owns and operates the Adoption and Education Center at 14 Forever Friend Lane. Buncombe County Animal Shelter at 16 Forever Friend Lane is owned by the County and operated by Asheville Humane Society. For adoptions, visit Asheville Humane Society. Q: Who do I contact about animal abuse or animal complaints?
A: Asheville Humane Society has no jurisdiction to investigate animal cruelty or neglect complaints. We work with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and the City of Asheville Police Department to report animal abuse and neglect. To contact Animal Services click here for more information
