Asheville Humane Society is now offering Canine Good Citizen Readiness training for our volunteers! This guided training will provide the tools you need to work with shelter dogs who are going through our CGC Readiness Program.
The Canine Good Citizen Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community, stressing responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. Our CGC Readiness Program will prepare dogs to pass this test with their new family and will boost the participating dogs’ likelihood of a quick adoption.
The four dogs at a time participating in this program will have a sign on their kennel indicating that only volunteers and staff members who have been trained through these sessions will have the ability to work with them.
To participate in this training, each volunteer must have completed volunteer orientation, basic service requirements, Pooch Essentials Class, and Canine Body Language Class. Sign up for each session is limited to eight volunteers and the option to schedule will automatically close when the session is full.
October training dates:
Eligible volunteers may schedule themselves through the Volunteer Information Center. For your first shift you will be asked to come in 30 minutes early for a brief orientation.
