** $5 Adoption Fees for All Pets (except puppies) NOW - Saturday, August 7! **

Tue, 03/31/2020, 12:03:am

Effective Tuesday, March 17, all Asheville Humane Society Adoption Center and Buncombe County Animal Shelter volunteers, with the exception of trained Canine T.E.A.M. volunteers, are to stop reporting for their volunteer shifts. While all AHS volunteers are an essential part of our organization and mission, we have made this difficult decision to keep everyone healthy and to do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19. As this is uncharted territory for everyone, we do not know how long this directive will last. We will continue to keep everyone informed as this situation progresses and evolves.  Please be sure to monitor your emails for more information and please join the volunteer Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/628322180575286/about/) if you are on Facebook so we can stay connected.

Due to the need to keep our dogs enriched during this challenging time, we will be allowing trained Canine T.E.A.M. volunteers to continue participating in playgroups, and assisting the Behavior Department with behavior modification and training activities. This includes Hiking Hounds and Urban Tails Group Hikes. However, if you do not feel comfortable reporting for your volunteer shift, we completely understand.  It is also important for you to take necessary precautions and refrain from coming in if you are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to someone with symptoms.

Please note that you may still see sign up options for shifts online.  Getting all of the schedule options closed/removed will take at least a day or two, as we have to do this all manually and we have a very large number of schedule options available.  An open shift online DOES NOT mean that you may come in and complete that activity.  It is vital that our volunteers follow the above guidelines and do not rely on our online scheduling system to let you know what is available each day while these measures are in place.

If you are a foster that is currently caring for animals, you will still come to any scheduled foster appointments unless our Foster Department lets you know otherwise. If you have an appointment scheduled and are experiencing symptoms or have come into contact with someone who is, please contact our Foster Manager, Evie, at foster[at]ashevillehumane[dot]org or our Foster Med Tech, Mallory, at medfoster[at]ashevillehumane[dot]org to cancel and/or reschedule your appointment.  It is vital that our fosters monitor email communications from our Foster Department closely for any further instructions or information.

If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Paul, our Volunteer Manager at volunteer[at]ashevillehumane[dot]org, or our Chief Programs Officer Kim Roberts at kroberts[at]ashevillehumane[dot]org if Kelly is unavailable.

Thank you for your continued support of AHS, our staff and all of our animals and for your patience as we navigate this unprecedented event.
