Asheville Humane has been asked by Maddie’s Fund to participate in a nationwide study on the benefit of fieldtrip programs for shelter dogs! We eagerly accepted this opportunity and got to work on revamping our Urban Tails Program.
If you’re not familiar with our Urban Tails Program, it is when volunteers take shelter dogs off campus on walks, hikes, or to their homes or businesses to give them a break from the kennel environment. Not only are these outings a great experience for the dogs, they allow us to gather important behavioral information for potential adopters! So, we’re super excited to re-launch this beneficial program and we hope that we’ll get lots of volunteer participation!
On March 23rd, we will begin at 11am with a training presentation for anyone who is interested in participating in this program, and it will also be a great refresher for anyone who hasn’t participated in a while. When the training is complete, you’ll have the opportunity to take a dog right away! The goal is to get as many shelter dogs as possible out on the town for an adventure or onto someone’s couch for a nap on the day of the re-launch.
This opportunity is available for current volunteers and fosters of Asheville Humane. If you have questions about eligibility, please email volunteer[at]ashevillehumane[dot]org.
