Feeding Hope: Asheville Humane Society Opens Pet Food Distribution Sites for Storm Relief

Asheville, NC — Asheville Humane Society’s (AHS) Community Outreach Team has hit the pavement, ensuring that the pets in our community (and their people) are fed, have water, and are cared for by opening five free pet food distribution sites in Asheville.

Thousands of Pounds of Food Distributed Already

Since food distribution began on October 4, more than 6,500 pounds of dog food, 2,500 pounds of cat food, and 400 pounds of other animal food have been given away. Donations came from generous community members from all over the country, as well as major partners including Chewy, Greater Good Charities, The Humane Society of the United States, and the ASPCA.

“We’ve been a critical safety net for Buncombe County since 1984, and our ability to meet the community’s need is our biggest priority right now,” said Adam Cotton, Director of Community Solutions. “Our community outreach team will continue to do whatever is needed to keep pets and their people together.”

Five Distribution Sites Active, More to Come

Current food distribution points include AHS’s Animal Care Campus at 14 Forever Friend Lane; AHS’s Administration and Outreach offices at 800 River Ridge Drive C1 (accessible at the rear of the building); WNC Farmer’s Market in partnership with MANNA Food Bank Distribution Center at 570 Brevard Road; Unete at 55 Adams Hill Road; and Underdog Martial Arts at 1156 Sweeten Creek Road.

AHS staff also regularly deliver food to communities of focus within roughly 20 miles of the Community Solutions office; since Helene, that radius has expanded to include the entirety of Buncombe County.
