Asheville Humane Society Receives $9,000 Grant from BISSELL Pet Foundation to Reduce the Homeless Pet Population in Buncombe County

ASHEVILLE, NC, February 18, 2021— Asheville Humane Society is proud to announce it has been awarded a $9,000 grant from BISSELL Pet Foundation (BPF) for spay and neuter procedures. AHS hopes to address overcrowding in shelters and rescues by preventing unwanted litters of cats and dogs in Buncombe County.

“BISSELL Pet Foundation is proud to announce its spring grant cycle will award $413,510 in spay/neuter funding to 69 animal welfare organizations across 28 states,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “We’ve seen the impact spay/neuter makes in shelters and the communities they reside. With this funding, 14,740 pets will be impacted to prevent further homelessness across the country.”

These funds will help us provide vouchers to pet owners who want to get their pets spayed or neutered but need financial assistance to do so. If you are facing barriers that prevent you from spaying or neutering your pet, please email helpline[at]ashevillehumane[dot]org to see what resources might be available to you.

“Spay/neuter services are desperately needed in our community, especially after our local spay/neuter clinic was forced to reduce their capacity during the COVID pandemic and many pet owners could not find low-cost options,” said Jody Evans, Executive Director of Asheville Humane Society. “By providing spay/neuter vouchers to the public, we hope to drastically reduce the amount of homeless and unwanted animals in Buncombe County.”

With a mission to find every pet a home, BPF focuses their efforts on adoption, spay/neuter, microchipping and emergency support.
