It is with a mix of sadness and gratitude that the Board of Directors announces Jody Evans’ departure from Asheville Humane Society effective Friday, July 9, 2021. We just closed our fiscal year in a strong position, especially in the face of COVID, with an incredible staff in place providing and promoting the compassionate treatment of animals in our community through education, sheltering, and adoption. While Jody will be missed, we wish her the best of luck in her next chapter! We want to thank her for 2 years of dedicated service as Executive Director which involved many significant accomplishments including:
· Provided fearless leadership through the pandemic that ensured the safety and retention of staff while providing constant high-quality care for animals in need in our community
· With Board support, obtained a pay increase for our full-time hourly employees
· Launched a brand-new Asheville Humane Thrift Store that is flourishing and has just moved into a bigger space in River Ridge Shopping Center
· Strengthened partnerships with local animal welfare organizations to coordinate life-saving efforts through the pandemic
We are putting together a search committee to conduct a national search over the coming months to find the new Asheville Humane Society Executive Director. During this transition, we are excited to announce that John Haas has returned as Interim Executive Director. We will share the job announcement soon and appreciate your help in identifying incredible candidates who can help Asheville Humane Society thrive.
We are excited and hopeful for the next chapter of Asheville Humane Society as together we continue to provide local animals in need with the care, safety, and joy to give them the high-quality lives they deserve.
