As a lifelong animal lover, I am incredibly honored to become part of the team at Asheville Humane Society. It fulfills a dream of mine to join a talented group of individuals who are all working tirelessly together to make a difference. After working at the national level, I’ve realized my true calling is to be grounded here, serving my community. I’m so excited about this opportunity to lead such a well-respected organization that positively impacts the lives of both people and pets every single day.
From the very first moment I arrived in Asheville nine years ago as a single mother to a nine-year-old daughter, this community embraced me with open arms and an open heart. I have watched my daughter, Amelia, grow and thrive and now she is off to college in just a few weeks. During this time of great change in my life, I realized that I didn’t want to leave Asheville for another position in my previous field of public radio. It was time for a change. I’m ready to bring my 20+ years of experience in non-profit leadership to an organization I hold near and dear to my heart – Asheville Humane.
Throughout the ups and downs, successes and challenges over the years, the one constant in my daughter’s life and mine has been the devotion of our beloved dogs, 13-year-old golden mix, Miss Tilly and 6-year-old Schnauzer mix, Busy Izzy. With the two of them always by my side, I have experienced first-hand the power that animals have to love unconditionally and provide constant comfort and companionship.
My years of experience as a journalist have given me a deep understanding and appreciation for those in our society who need help the most, and the important role we all play in raising each other up and helping our neighbors. Alongside a committed board and capable staff, it is a privilege to step into this role to help lead the charge of an organization that is already making a huge difference in our little corner of the world, enriching the lives of animals and humans alike.
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you who share the same passion for helping our furry friends!
We hope you will help us welcome Jody to Asheville Humane Society!
Jody's diverse knowledge and skills, combined with a capable staff and committed Board, will ensure that our community's animals are in great hands. We look forward to continuing our mission of saving lives with Jody leading the charge!
