Puppy Socialization Recommendations

Puppies can start socialization as early as 7 weeks, and the more exposure they have, the higher the chances are of contributing to a behaviorally healthy community of pets in Buncombe County. As a resource center for pets and their people, Asheville Humane Society supports the American Veterinary Society in pushing puppy socialization before puppies are fully vaccinated.

“The primary and most important time for puppy socialization is the first three months of life. During this time puppies should be exposed to as many new people, animals, stimuli and environments as can be achieved safely and without causing overstimulation manifested as excessive fear, withdrawal or avoidance behavior.” -AVSAB Statement on Puppy Socialization
